It is finally here. The owners of this block approached me back in June 2015 to design them a new home, and some 16 months later, work on the site has begun.
All of the design and documentation process is now behind us, all approvals in place, various building trades engaged and now it seems our ducks are all lined up.
The site, sitting around 90 meters above sea level on the plateau above Sydney’s northern beaches is only fairly small. At just over 400 square meters, it has been a challenge to shoe-horn a new four bedroom, home, with a separate study, a media room, double garage, loads of storage, an al-fresco dining area, “oh and while you’re at it a pool please” into it, but we’ve managed it. Amazingly we still maintain the 40% soft landscaped area required by Council regulations and have also retained and protected the fabulous Angophora tree at the front of the site. This gorgeous native tree will frame the views down to Fisherman’s Beach and the Long Reef headland just nicely.

First things first. Somewhere for the trades, inspectors, owners (and me) to make comfort stops. Essential given the proximity of a great coffee shop just a few doors away.

Being up at the back of the site, the first sod to be turned was for the modestly sized pool. Digging started at 7am, rock was struck by 10! Luckily the rock is pretty sugary, so the little 5ton excavator made short work of it. Within a week or so, the shell of the pool will be in place, and work can commence on the foundations of the house in earnest.
Exciting times indeed for the owners; Lauren and David.
