Palm Beach 1
The heritage listed beach house known as 'Sumerlands' was originally built in the 1920's by Dr Bullimore (father of the late Sir Frank Packer). Extensions to the rear of this house were required to provide the additional accommodation and amenities needed whilst remaining sympathetic to the integrity of the original dwelling.
Extensive use of Red Ironbark and local sandstone helped enhance the sense of location whilst providing the necessary resistence to bushfire attack.
On the original dwelling, cheap aluminium framed windows installed in the 1960s to enclose the upper verandah were replaced with large Ironbark sliding windows that allowed the retention of the spectacular views whilst respecting the fabric and style of the original house.
